Yes, the only difference is that when you plant a new tree, you can begin to control the roots before they cause problems. When installing a root barrier for an existing tree, you need to clean up the stray roots so that they can now be contained by the barrier.

It is a simple process, which can be done quite easily. The only downfall is you may have already begun to see the issues in your hardscape or plumbing that result from not having a barrier to begin with. For this reason, it is best to install a root barrier BEFORE there are obvious issues and damages accrued.

As a rule of thumb; any trees or plants near a hardscape should have a root barrier installed as soon as possible before damages have occurred and unwarranted expenses are accumulated.

If you are already experiencing damages to your hardscape or plumbing, you may contact us for further advice on how to take care of such an issue properly.

Root barriers are absolutely essential where plants are growing near hardscapes and utility lines. Aggressive roots can result in costly damage to sidewalks, streets, plumbing lines, foundations, retaining walls, etc. Not using a barrier will cost a large amount of money in the future when the roots continue to grow.

Aside from physical repairs and damage, not using a barrier could result in a lifted sidewalk that poses a potential trip and fall hazard for pedestrians. If such an event is to take place, property owners face the liability for the victim of the fall that may have resulted in an injury.

The use of a barrier not only protects your hardscapes, but your finances as well. Our root barriers have saved many Counties, Cities, and businesses from lawsuits and financial stress by simply preventing aggressive roots from damaging foundations, especially in areas of high traffic where people commute on a daily basis.

Our barriers are backed with a manufacturer’s material guarantee, ISA Arborist field-tested, approved and endorsed. To develop our products, we worked with the Counties of Orange and Los Angeles, CA, as well as the U.S. Forestry Department to find the issues with other companies’ barriers and create a uniquely durable, long-lasting product.

Our products are approved by Government and Federal Agencies nationwide. Our barriers are made out of a material called polyethylene, which is flexible enough to not crack under pressure, while still being durable enough to block roots. Our products are not only proven as the front- runner in the landscape industry, but they typically cost 30% to 40% less than other products on the market.

We are also the ONLY company that manufactures a dual purpose root and water barrier roll, which protects hardscapes from root and water damage.

Root barriers are simply placed into a hole/ trench in the ground at a desired location. All you have to do is dig a hole or trench wide and deep enough to fit the root barrier. You then place the barrier into said hole with the ribs facing the roots and fill it back up with dirt.

We have different sized root barriers that can reach different depths for larger or smaller trees. Each barrier is installed the same way; the difference is the size of hole you are to dig so that the barrier will fit. You are to leave the barrier sticking 1-2 inches above ground level so that roots may not grow toward your hardscape on the surface. The tops of our barriers have a flexible edge so that they are not cracked if someone or something is to come into contact with the barrier.

The flexible top edge also makes it less likely that someone would trip over the barrier.

A deep watering panel is much like our regular panels and barrier that redirect root growth downward to protect hardscapes. The difference between a deep watering panel and a regular panel is that a deep watering panel is designed to deposit water and nutrients directly to the roots.

This system is designed to use 30% less water by evenly distributing the water and nutrients throughout the roots rather than pouring the water on top of the soil and hoping that it reaches the lowest roots.

We also have our Deep Watering Panels with Root Ball Stabilizers (DWP-RS Series) that allows roots to grow through holes in controlled areas, in order to stabilize the plant.

Root barriers are sized at different levels of protection for more aggressive plants. The deeper the root barrier, the longer it will protect your hardscape. Our available sizes reach the depth of the hole you are willing to dig according to the specifications provided.

All you have to do is measure the ground after you determine where you want the barrier, including adequate space for the roots to grow properly and decide how deep into the ground you want the barrier to reach.

A slope guard protects trees growing on 1 to 2 degree slopes from costly erosion damage. They also retain the soil planted with the tree, while disallowing the soil above the plant to come down and smother the roots.

Erosion is the process by which wind or water pushes soil, dirt and rocks downward and deposits it in another location. For a newly planted tree, this can uproot the tree entirely and cause it to slip down the slope, grow crooked, or adversely affect the growth of the tree. Our slope guards are manufactured from a durable material known as polyethylene.

Our slope guards provide new plantings with a trim and professional border which is aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Slope guards give new trees on slopes a chance to root and grow into the hill properly, without tipping over or uprooting.

Tree guards are designed to prevent damage from weed trimmers, mowers and rodents at the base of your tree trunk. Our tree guards are manufactured from durable polyethylene material that won’t crack when hit, a common problem that often renders other tree guards useless. Our tree guards are adjustable and designed to expand with tree growth.

They have tabbed connections so that you can connect two or more tree guards to accommodate any sized tree and easily adjust your guard throughout the natural growth of the tree.

Our product is also designed with perforated vents to ensure proper ventilation to the tree trunk. Tree guards are essential in maintaining the health of the tree, so that nutrients may come from the soil, to the roots, up the trunk and throughout the tree.

If there is damage to the trunk, the tree will not receive all of its essential nutrients and will struggle to survive.

A root barrier is essentially an underground wall that keeps plants and hardscapes from conflicting.

There are two types of root barriers: mechanical and chemical. Chemical barriers work by stopping the growth of the tree root when it reaches the barrier, by killing the tree roots that come into contact with it. This option may adversely affect plant life, lasts for a shorter amount of time than a mechanical barrier, and poses a danger in areas such as parks, where children may dig the chemical sheet up.

Mechanical Barriers work WITH the roots, allowing them to grow, but re-directing their growth downward, rather than horizontal or upward; where it can penetrate a sidewalk, crack a foundation, damage utility lines, or any other amount of costly damage.

Our root barriers are made out of a polyethylene material which is flexible enough to not crack with pressure, yet durable enough to block tree roots and keep communities looking the way they were intended to look.
