Century Products — Our Story
Century Products was founded in 1985 after officials in Orange and Los Angeles Counties sought more reliable solutions for root pruning and root barrier installations. Existing materials were failing within 18–24 months, causing hardscape damage, trip hazards, and costly repeat repairs.
Working with county officials and the U.S. Forestry Department, we identified the core issues and redesigned the barriers from the ground up. ISA Certified Arborist and Licensed Contractor Floyd T. Smith introduced new specifications using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and developed a patented manufacturing process to create stronger, more durable, and cost-effective root barrier rolls.
This innovation produced the industry’s only dual-purpose Root and Water Barrier—approved by government and federal agencies nationwide. For nearly three decades, Century Products has led the landscape and hardscape industry with high-quality materials trusted by contractors, architects, municipalities, and homeowners.
